Radio documentary for the Journalism postgraduate course at the University of Westminster Date: Feb 28, 2011 The British Prime minister David Cameron has recently blamed "state multiculturalism" for a "weakening of our collective identity" and said it encouraged different cultures to live "separate lives, apart from each other and apart from the mainstream". Later Mr. Cameron insisted he was not "singling out Muslims, but he speech prompted much comment in the UK and abroad. Some commentators saw the speech as an end to Britain's tradition of racial and religious tolerance, or even a direct attack on Islam. How tolerant is the British society towards Muslims? Radio feature for the Journalism postgraduate course at the University of Westminster Date: Jan 31, 2011 A 53 year old female TV presenter won her case against the BBC in a tribunal case brought on grounds of ageism. Miriam O’Reilly was one of four female presenters who were dropped from Countryfile – a television programme which reports on rural and environmental issues within the United Kingdom. Broadcaster Dame Joan Bakewell, who is a former government advisor on older people's issues, said for the BBC the outcome was a "landmark decision" showing that ageism could be brought to a tribunal. Campaigners have welcomed a tribunal's finding saying the ruling sent out a "powerful signal" against age discrimination.

Radio Package for the University of Westminster Journalism postgraduate course. Date: Nov 3, 2010 The BBC World Service was praised in a report by the Media Standards Trust as essential for sustaining international reporting. Speaking to the Guardian the author of the report Martin Moore expressed concerns about the reform in the funding of the World Service. BBC will have to take on responsibility from the Foreign Office for funding the international broadcaster, which will see a budget reduction of 16% over four years. Moore is afraid that some very important aspects of the service could be lost. What will be the impact of the change of funding for the Worlds Service and what the British public think about it ? |
